Aims, Objectives and Outcomes

For this project, I am in a team to produce an animated short film called ‘Time Capsule’.  The team consists of 3 animators and 1 sound designer (me). The task is to produce a successful short animated film and collaborate both visuals and sound. The animators are tasked to produce a short animation and my task is to produce the sound that will both complement the visuals and be complex in design. Through extensive research and practice, I will be able to execute this task. As this is client based, I am working for the animators. I will have to apply professionalism when discussing ideas of  what sound the animators want and show my knowledge of what will work best and what will not.

Aims and Objectives

The requirements given from the animators for the sound:

  • Produce a piece of high quality sound design for ‘Time Capsule’
  • Create a unique sound design for the main character/creature
  • Locate music that fits well within the film and drives the narrative forward
  • Create a unique ambient track that represents the planet seen in ‘Time Capsule’

Steps to achieve these requirements:

  • Research into sound design for animation
  • Research into music for animation
  • Field recording in different locations for planet ambience
  • Knowledge of foley and SFX

Learning Outcomes

  • To further my knowledge in field recording
  • To further my creativity with SFX design
  • How to apply SFX effectively and when to use them
  • Improve my creative skills for sound design for characters
